Thoughtful gift ideas for Mother’s Day

For many of Irish decent, the month of March has two significant dates for the diary namely Mother’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day. Both days hold significant importance for differing reasons but can also be marked with a suitable Irish gift whether its traditional, quirky or more contemporary.

This year Mother’s Day, or as others less commonly refer to it as Mothering Sunday, falls on the 6th March 2016. It is a day for mothers to sit back and relax and be acknowledged for the support they have given their family and friends over the previous 12 months.

Throughout the world, Mother’s Day is celebrated in many different ways and indeed on varying dates. It is also timely as it allows family members to express their gratitude for a mothers support and guidance with a thoughtful personalized gift or a surprise day out with the family.

There are of course many different ways to acknowledge Mother’s Day and it is very much a personal choice as to whether you lean towards a traditional Irish gift or, perhaps, more of a novelty gift.

The more traditional route would typically comprise of a Mother’s Day card, a bunch of flowers or even a box of chocolates. There is also opportunity to acknowledge the day through actions such as breakfast in bed, performing the household chores or preparing a nice meal. If you happen to be living abroad then a timely phone or Skype call home might make your mothers day!

The ever increasing popularity of online shopping has also made the process of selecting the perfect Mother’s Day gift that little bit easier. The added bonus is, of course, that the gift can be delivered direct to your mothers door which gives that added element of surprise.  Online stores open up the possibility of choosing a really special personalized gift that that your mother will really cherish.

The range of gifts can include a decorative piece of celtic jewelry such as a Claddagh ring or a Triskele inspired pendant; an ornate item of Waterford Crystal such as a picture frame or small vase; or for the style conscious there is the option of a cosy hand-knit aran sweater direct from Ireland’s western seaboard.

So whatever form of gift to decide to choose for Mothering Sunday, whether it’s something more traditional, personalized  or even quirky; it is the thought that counts!
